In 5th grade, students will begin the year with whole number
computation and applications. Students will develop fluent processes to multiply and divide multi-digit whole numbers and solve real-world problems. They will also be introduced to the concept of volume using cubic units. Students will measure volume by counting cubic units and discussing and interpreting visual models before being introduced to the formula for volume. This will lay a solid foundation for work with exponents in 6th grade. It is imperative that students master multiplication and division facts. Multiplication and Division operations will be incorporated into all of the concepts that will be taught throughout the year. Memorizing these facts
will greatly improve your child's academic progress.
